DPH Internship

The Division of Population Health (DPH) intern program provides short-term, time-limited internships to university students studying public health or related fields. These interns will help the Utah Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) advocate for, support, and serve all individuals and communities in Utah. The interns will also help DHHS ensure all Utahns have fair and equitable opportunities to live safe and healthy lives.

Benefits:

Interns will gain experience working in public health at a government agency focusing on the 10 Essential Public Health Services and learn how publicly funded services operate. The intern will also gain experience with the Utah DHHS values including: accountability, connection, efficacy, empathy, equity, impact, innovation, support.  Other skills will be developed depending on project assignments, these may include: 

  • Ethics and professionalism
  • Communication: technical, interpersonal
  • Program planning
  • Data analysis
  • Research
  • Evaluation

Application Process

Internship applications are welcome year-round with applications reviewed in February, June, and September in order for interns to start at the beginning of school semesters (May, September, January). 

Occasionally, there may be intern opportunities outside of the semester start dates. The internship workgroup will reach out to applicants if these opportunities become available.
