(Salt Lake City, UT) – The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) today authorized the use of the Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 booster doses for all adults.
The recommendation simplifies previous guidance on booster doses, and comes after several states, including Utah, had already expanded eligibility.
Under the new recommendations, anyone 18 or older who received their Pfizer or Moderna vaccine at least 6 months ago or their Johnson & Johnson vaccine at least 2 months ago, is eligible for a booster dose.
“More than 280,000 Utah residents have received booster doses so far,” said Dr. Leisha Nolen, state epidemiologist at the Utah Department of Health. “I encourage everyone to go out and get a booster dose when they are due. Vaccines are a critical part of making sure everyone has a healthy holiday season. If you’re someone who hasn’t gotten a COVID-19 vaccine yet, please get one now and keep your holidays safe.”
The CDC has also authorized mixing-and-matching of COVID-19 booster doses, meaning people can receive a different type of booster vaccine than the type of vaccine they originally received.
